A fire hydrant in the Santee Lowe's parking lot was struck by a delivery truck Tues. around 9 a.m., creating a towering plume of water that could be seen from over a mile away. According to Larry Ward, construction and maintenance supervisor for Padre Dam Municipal Water District, one of his crews was one their way to another assignment when they saw geyser and went to work shutting off the supply.
Aaron Hazard and Rich Schultz bore the brunt of the tremendous force and volume of water. The two joined forces on the six foot key to turn the valve that finally halted the flow.
